I was always unhappy with the noise in my images but more or less had given up on the issue as I could not find a good solution with my parameters (no subscribed software, now Windooze). The result is vaguely similar to vidrazor's sample. Chrominance noise is reduced quite a lot.

There is a bit more fine grain luminance noise in the image now which makes it look more natural and a bit sharper. I took the almost final version before noise reduction and applied first ACDNR to it as described on Jon's page and an additional TGV with a simple luminance mask. I decided not to redo the image right from the linear phase. So, dug my way thru Jon Rista's noise reduction instructions.

There is a trial version you can download and see for yourself how you like it. The noise reduction settings were different of course, but the end result works the same, as you can see below. However I went ahead and tried the same color noise reduction process in the $55 US Affinity Photo program, which is a one-time priced image editor with many of the same operators and processors available in Photoshop and, unlike GIMP, it has parametric adjustment layers like Photoshop. Only because I work professionally with it is why I use Photoshop. I understand the mindset of subscription based software, it's rather parasitical. It is still on the enough noise for me side. I am conditioned to think "plastic" when there is no noise at all. At the time grain turned into an art in some b/w portraits.

I grew up with the grain of ISO 400 fuji negative film. No offense, Adam! Not saying it is wrong, it is just not to my taste. Otoh I absolutely like the zero-noise approach of Adam Block. Maybe I should be more aggressive in non-linear. I tend not to reduce too much noise in the linear state because once the detail is gone it is gone forever. I will use your processing as a guideline and figure out if I can come anywhere close with functions available in PI. Also I don't want to buy such a monster of a program only to use one single feature. General finance management guideline in my life. Either I can buy once and for life or I don't buy it.

I don't have PS and I refuse using any software that is on rental license. So at the end of your image processing train, you may want to bring the finished render into Photoshop and apply color noise reduction as needed for a given target and render. As you can see, even at that low setting, it has effectively eliminated the color noise while maintaining color fidelity in all the important image data. Here we can see luminosity levels that go from your darkest skies, to star cores, and the effect of only 20% color noise reduction using the Camera Raw "filter" in Photoshop throughout the luminosity range. Below is a 100% crop of your 4K image as an example (in a browser on a computer, right-click to open in a new tab and then click on the image to bring it up to 100%). There is a point of diminishing returns on it of course, but it can be quite effective without damaging the overall color fidelity of an image. Unlike luminosity noise, color noise is generally more readily effectively remedied. I guess I have to make masks and use wavelets to remove that before stretching. TGV denoise does not work on such a large scale.

When faint nebulosity is involved I don't know how to deal with that. In some cases like globular clusters a simple desaturation of the background does the job. Although dithering about 30 pix the DSLR comes up with a relatively large scale background color pattern. Color noise is one of my unsolved problems.
